SMS Restrictions in France

babelforce supplies virtual numbers in France that are enabled for 2-way SMS. That means that you can receive SMS inbound messages on these numbers.

However, it is important to be aware that there are significant restrictions on SMS usage in France. The most important restrictions effecting 2-way SMS are as follows.

In general, only direct person to person SMS with unique content is allowed. The network / carriers / operators impose several restriction types to enforce this:

1. SMS messages are throttled. For example, sending 1 SMS every 2 seconds will not be allowed.
2. Sending many messages that show the same sender number, i.e. one long virtual number, can result in the particular number being blocked for some time.

Since it is not clear how these restrictions are applied exactly, make sure to monitor your processes when sending out a lot of SMS.
