How to set up any VoIP phone

1. Telephone IP & settings web interface

Find the IP address of your phone along with its login details - this will allow you to edit your phone settings as an admin. With your phone and computer connected to the internet, enter the IP address into your browser search bar; it should take you to the web interface of your phone.

If you are configuring a SIP softphone application, you only need to locate its 'Settings' or 'Preferences' interface.

2. Line/identity/SIP account settings

This section could be called 'Line settings', 'Identity settings' or just 'SIP'. There are 2 key pieces of information which babelforce will have given you for each SIP account:

  • Agent ID number (User ID)
  • Password

Once you have located this section and are able to edit, you will need to find the correct fields in which to enter the above settings. The User ID field could also be called 'Account'. 

The following settings are also important to note:

  • Telephone number
  • Domain name (this is always "")

The telephone number field might be described as 'Display name' or 'Display number'. This is an arbitrary setting defining what you would like the caller number to be shown as on a callee's device by default for outbound calls. In a typical case this would be the same as the main service telephone number.

The domain name may also be called 'Registrar' or 'Authorization proxy'.

3. STUN/NAT traversal settings

Find the correct interface to enter the STUN/NAT settings and enter the following values:

  • Set the STUN server to show ""
  • Set the STUN interval to 3600 seconds
  • Set the Keepalive interval to 30 seconds

Some interfaces will not allow you to edit the interval settings. If not, just ensure that you enter the name of the STUN server. You should also make sure that your phone is using STUN, not ICE, as the recommend NAT traversal method. 

4. Audio/codec settings

In the phone's audio settings interface (they might also be under 'RTP'), you must ensure that the codec selected is either 'G.711a' or 'PCMA'. 

Again, in some interfaces the codec options will look quite different, including limiting users to just ordering codecs by preference. In this case, you just need to ensure that G.711a is at the top. If it doesn't appear at all, use 'PCMA'.
